SESSION 2

  • The beginning of child development material and newborn care.
  • Attachments and its importance for child development.
  • Quality caregiving for infants and toddlers.
  • Developmental milestones of infants and toddlers.
  • Fostering the development of infants and toddlers.
  • Guidance and discipline: Responding to the challenging behaviour of toddlers.

SESSION 3

  • Special characteristics of a preschooler.
  • The role of a preschool teacher.
  • Development milestones of preschoolers.
  • Fostering preschoolers’ development.
  • Fostering the spiritual and moral development of preschoolers.
  • Fostering pro-social behavior and working with family on positive discipline strategies.

 

The course provides learners with knowledge and skills to work as a professional educator for children aged 0-3 years in a preschool.

The course focuses on the care and stimulation of babies and toddlers.

  • Identifying activities that support the development of babies, toddlers, and young children.
  • Sourcing and select resources.
  • Adapting resources.
  • Setting up the environment.
  • Reflecting on the use and effectiveness of the resources
  • Demonstrating an understanding of key principles and values for working with adults, families, and communities.
  • Assisting families to provide an environment conducive to the development of young children.

The learner will be equipped to work in a nursery school with children aged  3-6 years.
